The chicken is a recurring theme. It is a symbol of inexhaustible fertility and, in contemporary society, an example of mass production for the needs of the insatiable human: a food-producing machine and a disposable product. The anonymity of these animals in battery cages reflects the distortion of our needs and the way we bend nature to our will.
